The United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) offers various funding programs to veterans and their families. In order to be eligible for veteran benefits, you must be discharged from or an active member of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. Commissioned officers in eligible government sectors (e.g. Public Health Services, Environmental Science Services, Space Science Services...etc.) are also entitled to receive veteran benefits and grants.

Veteran Grants for War-Time Veterans
Some veteran grants and programs require veterans to have participated in the following wars:
- Mexican Border Period (May 9, 1916 - April 5, 1917)
- World War I (April 6, 1917 - July 1, 1921)
- World War II (December 7, 1941 - December 31, 1946)
- Korean War (June 27, 1950 - January 31, 1955)
- Vietnam War (August 5, 1964 - May 7, 1975)
- Gulf War (August 2, 1990 - End date set by law or Presidential Proclamation)
For veteran grant programs for war-time veterans, applicants must submit their discharge forms: DD-214, DD-215, or WD form.
Veteran Business Grants for Entrepreneurs
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has created a dedicated Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE). The purpose of the program is to assist veterans in starting and expanding their business ventures by fostering entrepreneurs with financial support to promote veteran-owned businesses. In addition to small business grants offered by the SBA (Small Business Administration), veterans are also eligible to apply and receive business grants from CVE.
Government Grants for Homeless Veterans
Veteran housing grants are awarded to veterans for construction, acquisition, and renovation of real estate properties. The veteran housing grant initiative also provides financial aid for transportation by helping veterans to purchase vehicles. According to the Housing and Economic Recovery Act, the amount in veteran housing grants will remain unchanged this fiscal year. Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) grants are also available to veterans or service members who have service-connected disabilities to ensure a barrier-free living environment for disabled veterans.
Veteran Education Grants
Veterans and their dependents are eligible to apply and receive veteran education grants. The United States government has launched the Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) program which will provide financial assistance for higher education not only to the veterans but also to applicable dependents as well. Please do note the funding for dependents will usually last until the date of death of the beneficial veteran.
Veteran education grants are offered for (not limited to) the following coverage:
- Partial tuition discoun or full coverage t on undergraduate and graduate programs
- 100% participant in the VA's Yellow Ribbon program
- Credit for CLEP and DSST examinations
- Financial aid for military training, studies, and experience

In addition to health benefits for regular citizens, the United States government offers health benefits to active and discharged veterans and their dependents.
